Nicolas Cage rules out making Marvel movies: “I don’t need to join the MCU, I’m Nic Cage”

Nicolas Cage has declared that he does not want to be part of the Marvel cinematic universe (MCU, in English). In a magazine interview Variety released on Monday 6, reflected on the role of the franchise in the industry.

“I understand the frustration. I understand,” said the actor, referring to the criticism the company has already received from renowned directors, such as Francis Ford Coppola – who is the actor’s uncle – and Martin Scorsese.

“But I think there’s plenty of room for everyone. I’m watching movies like tar. I’m watching all kinds of arty and independent films. I think there’s room for everyone.”

When asked by the magazine if he’d like to be in a Marvel movie, however, Cage was quick to reply that he wouldn’t. “I don’t need to join the MCU, I’m Nic Cage,” he said.

Despite having denied participation, the artist recalled having a personal relationship with the franchise: “I must be cool with Marvel films, because I was baptized with the name of a character from Stan Lee called Luke cage. What am I supposed to do, put the Marvel movies aside? Stan Lee is my surrealist father. He gave me the name.”
