Alok recalls the trajectory of World DJ Day and advises professionals in the area: “Be curious”

Therefore, the Brazilian alok31 years old, ranked fourth best in the world in 2021, by the magazine DJMaghighlights the importance of this celebration and encourages professionals in the area to persevere and evolve.

“Today it has a social function and was created to help sick people through music. DJs lies in his ability to deal with music and make them awaken emotions, create environments of joy and relaxation. I realized a long time ago that music heals,” she reflects.

Son of a DJ and twin brother of DJ Bhaskar, Alok says that although his family background influenced him, the certainty and the beginning of his career was not so simple. “20, 25 years ago people didn’t know what a DJ did. When I was 12, I was already playing professionally together with my brother. But as I got older, the question arose whether or not I would pursue a career as a DJ,” he says. .

Fearing the instability of the profession, Alok studied International Relations at the University of Brasilia. “I’ve seen the ups and downs my parents went through as a DJ. […] Thus, at the same time as seeing them play at parties and festivals awakened my passion for music, it also made me doubt”, he explains, to justify that family background does not always mean a concrete and successful path.

Faced with family and professional histories, the musical producer advises: “Be curious and open to the new. Before, for example, I thought that DJs who would go on stage and talk into the mic were tacky. And when did I start going on stage and talking into the mic during sets? What next? The How you judge the world is how you interpret how the world will judge you. So, my advice is: get rid of any judgment and do what makes sense to you, find your space, your identity.”

Alok points out that his label, Controversia, is attentive to the movement of new talent, with the intention of helping them become professionals. As an incentive, he also points out that “the electronic scene is prominent in the world”.

Behind the scenes of Alok’s career

Carrying a world title and racking up huge numbers like over 23.2 million monthly listeners Spotify, it is also challenging. “There is the responsibility that comes with being in this position, because from that moment on I need to present something that justifies this title, but there is also the recognition of a professional trajectory. […] Keeping up becomes a challenge, which I like! It’s no use being fourth best if my music isn’t being listened to,” she muses.

To maintain relevance, Alok’s strategy is to create innovative presentations and unique experiences. In addition to the whole entertainment aspect of the show, the artist emphasizes investing in sustainability actions such as offsetting CO2 (carbon dioxide) in her shows.

Ensures that social concern is always aligned with professional concern. “I worry about using my image as an additive to promote good initiatives. Alok Institute there is this space within my role as a citizen. It’s not enough that I’m the fourth best in the world, I need to know what I’m going to do with this exhibit,” she points out.

Alok’s program

In February, Alok also took his job to the carnival. More than 7,700 kilometers were covered, 30 hours on stage, two shows a night and an overall audience that exceeded the one million mark. According to him, the secret of success even at that time was knowing how to pass through different styles, without losing its essence and artistic characteristics, always being honest with the truth about him.

After the spree ended, the DJ began performing throughout the United States and Mexico. “I am now in Asia which with open borders is a market that is gaining importance in my tours. I have presentations in Europe next month and in the second half I will be launching worldwide The future is ancestral, which is now nearing completion. The project Alok Infinite Experience should visit other Brazilian cities, in addition to São Paulo,” he explains.
