‘It Was Unpleasant’: What Priyanka Chopra Looked Like When She Received the Title of ‘Miss World’

Priyanka Chopra was born in Jamshedpur, India, but moved to the United States with her mother when she was 13 years old. Her adolescence was difficult for her: by her own admission, she was confronted with racial prejudice, and also had complexes because of her clumsiness. Priyanka loved to dance and write stories – in general, to be creative. And then she caught fire and the desire to become an actress.

To draw attention to her, someone advised her to start participating in beauty pageants. In her senior year, she returned to India and competed in the local May Queen pageant. Priyanka won, and she immediately had a lot of fans – they even had to put bars on the windows of the house. Her triumphal procession through beauty contests continued, and in 2000 she reached the main contest – the Miss World contest. Chopra bypassed all competitors and won the crown – she was only 18 years old.

The old rivals, it seems, still can’t forgive Priyanka for her success. So, in 2022, a participant in this competition from Barbados, Leilani McConnie, said that Chopra’s victory was rigged and called Priyanka herself an “unpleasant person”.

Anyway, but the title of “Miss World” has opened up completely new opportunities for Priyanka. She made a career in Bollywood, then conquered Hollywood.
