The actor of “Babe – The Little Pig, Afraid” saves the piglet from the slaughter

James Cromwell, star of “Babe” (1995), is helping to save a real-life pig. Cromwell is an honorary director of PETA, an organization that advocates for the rights of all animals from insects to mammals, and was involved in the transfer of a piglet to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary after the piglet fell out of a truck who transported pigs to slaughter.

According to PETA, the abandoned pig was found “skinned, bruised and covered in mud” when it was rescued just before the Easter weekend. Cromwell met the little pig on the Internet and called him Babe, in clear homage to his films “Babe – Piggy in the confusion” (1995) and “Babe – Piggy in the city” (1998). Cromwell starred in the franchise as Arthur Hoggett, a farmer who becomes the “father” of the protagonist pig. The actor was even nominated for an Oscar for his role.

“I was privileged to witness the intelligence and personality of pigs while filming ‘Babe’. That experience changed my life and the way I eat, so I jumped at the chance to save this Babe in real life,” Cromwell said in a statement. . “Every pig deserves to live in peace and joy in a sanctuary, but few do.”

The real Babe will be relocated to the Indraloka Animal Sanctuary in Pennsylvania where he will join many other rescued animals.

According to PETA: “In the meat industry, which slaughters 129 million pigs each year, their tails are clipped, their teeth are clipped, and the males are castrated, all without painkillers. At the slaughterhouse, they are hung upside down down and bleed to death.”
