Nicole Kidman could have played Notting Hill instead of Roberts but she was turned down – the reason is unbelievable

The history of the filming of our favorite films, which have already become classics, is full of surprises and amazing facts – this is one of them.

The film “Notting Hill” was released in 1999 and has already managed to become one of the most iconic films in the romantic comedy genre. The main roles were played by Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, and it seems impossible to imagine other actors in their place. The success of the film was largely ensured by the “chemistry” between them – the clearly developed on-screen duo.

But, it turns out that Nicole Kidman claimed the female lead. The actress really starred in the film, but, alas, was refused. And the reason will surprise you – she was considered insufficiently famous and talented, although by that time Kidman had been shooting for 16 years and had starring roles, for example, in the films Batman Forever and Practical Magic.

Kidman did not speak about this unsuccessful episode of his film career until many years later in an interview. Well, she ended up playing Grant anyway. The actors met on the set of the HBO series Play Back, released in 2020.
