Not just a friend of Holmes and Watson: the roles that won Gennady Bogachev the love of audiences

On April 25, 2023, at the age of 79, People’s Artist of Russia Gennady Bogachev died. We recall in which roles he was remembered by the viewer.

Gennady Bogachev was born in the small town of Shatsk in the Ryazan region. After school he went to St. Petersburg to enter the theater institute and managed to conquer the selection committee. So Bogachev became a student of LGITMiK. Immediately after graduation, he was accepted into the troupe of the legendary BDT, and Georgy Tovstonogov personally appreciated his talent.

The actor finally gave this theater more than 50 years and played 50 of the most diverse roles during this time. He was busy in performances of The Inspector General, Macbeth, Wolves and Sheep, Quiet Flows the Don and others. What’s more, Bogachev was a true ratings legend – Richard Gere, Robert De Niro, Ian McKellen, Stephen Fry, Danny DeVito, Tony Curtis, Tommy Lee Jones and many more spoke at the domestic box office.
