The Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, was moved to receive the news of the death of singer Rita Lee, Margareth was attending a hearing at the Education Committee of the Federal Senate, this Tuesday 9, when she learned of the death.

“Hey, my God… I’m sorry,” the singer and minister said when she received the news via her adviser. Subsequently, Senator Flávio Arns (PSB-PR), who chaired the session, requested that the hearing be suspended for a few minutes. “Let’s take a little break. We just learned of Rita Lee’s passing,” he said.

Senator Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) proposes to suspend the session. “Given the affection that our minister has for Rita Lee, all of Brazil, if they understood that we have to suspend, we senators would have no problems. We know the connection and affection between the two,” Damares said.

Margereth thanked her, but rejected the suggestion of suspension. The singer and her minister explained that she was touched by the death of Rita Llee for her relevance to Brazil and that she was already shaken by the news of the death of the former federal deputy, David Miranda.

“I want to thank the Senator, but Rita Lee is not even a matter of direct friendship. I spent some moments with her, but what she symbolizes for Brazil, for Brazilian popular music, as a revolutionary woman… It’s difficult because today we already had the death of deputy David Miranda. It is a difficult moment to receive this news”, the minister highlighted.
