“Esmeralda Movement”: Globo employees protest against the station; understand the case

The engineer who works in the technical sector was harassed by four colleagues during working hours, the magazine said

A demonstration called Emerald movementinitiated by artists, journalists, technicians and administrative assistants of Rede Globehas had strong repercussions on social networks since last Monday 22, after Anna Maria Braga AND Patricia Poet wore green clothes during the presentation of the Plus you Comes from Encounter, respectively. The public believes that they too have quietly joined the act being held in support of engineer Esmeralda Silva (fictitious name), who worked at the station between 2017 and 2018. She was attacked by four men, on several occasions , during working hours.

In a labor lawsuit she filed against Globo for sexual harassment, moral harassment and xenophobia, Esmeralda won a settlement in the amount of R $ 2 million. The company offered a settlement, which was not upheld, and subsequently appealed. The case is in the Superior Labor Court of Brasilia.

OR Emerald movement began to be articulated after a magazine report PiauìFriday 19. The idea came from journalistic groups and those connected to the Signal Transmission and Reception Center, the sector where Esmeralda worked and suffered the attacks, in São Paulo.

In the images circulating on the net, the women – all dressed in green, since the engineer has chosen the pseudonym of “Esmeralda” – hold signs with the words “Mexiu with one, messed with everyone” and “We are all Esmeralda”. They gathered on a stairway of the Globe, in São Paulo, to make an official portrait of the movement.

As reported to Piauí, one of the four professionals cited by Esmeralda in her testimonies to Justice continues to work at the station. There is also a second case reported in the record, but the details of which are still unknown, as the victim did not want to testify in a public action. As a result of the incident, she reported dealing with anxiety, headaches, insomnia, bowel and urinary disorders.

New testimony in Rio de Janeiro

Esmeralda will testify next Thursday, 25, in an instruction hearing at the 36th Labor Court, in Rio de Janeiro, in a public civil action for sexual harassment that the Public Ministry of Labor is bringing against Rede Globo.

The lawyer Francisco Carlos da Silva Araújo, author of the complaint, combined Esmeralda’s case with that of the complainants of the case involving former humor director Marcius Melhem, denounced by several Globo colleagues. He denies having committed harassment.

In a note, the broadcaster said it was aware of the “Esmeralda Movement” and highlighted: “The free expression of the company’s professionals is in full alignment with our management of transparency and permanent dialogue. In any case, Globo reiterates that not comment on Compliance cases and also takes the opportunity to reiterate that the company maintains a Code of Ethics in line with the best practices currently adopted, which strictly prohibits harassment and must be respected by all employees, in all areas of the agency”.

“Likewise, Globo maintains a Guarantor ready to receive any reports of violations of its Code of Ethics, which are carefully investigated, with the sanction of those responsible for any discrepancies. In that same Code, we undertake secrecy with respect to all Compliance reports, which is why we do not comment on investigations. Our Compliance system also provides full support to whistleblowers, prohibiting any form of retaliation due to complaints”. he concluded.
