What is at issue in Gugu’s legacy? understand the family stalemate

Rose Miriam di Matteo, mother of the presenter’s three children, was excluded from the will and is fighting in the Justice of São Paulo to be entitled to 50% of the billionaire inheritance

The dispute over the inheritance of about 1 billion reais left by the presenter Gugu Liberated, who died in 2019 at the age of 60, in the United States, the victim of a domestic accident, has once again become one of the most discussed topics on the net in recent days. Since the communicator’s twin daughters, Sofia AND Marina Liberato19 years, returned to Brazil for the hearing that began on Monday 22 at the IX Tribunal for Family and Successions of the Central Court of São Paulo, the subject came to the fore with all its force. Mixed opinions among those involved in the will and exposure on social networks are some of the highlights that attract attention in the case.

To better understand this story, let’s start from the beginning. An hour and a half after Gugu’s burial, in 2019, which is unusual by tradition; usually this happens a week later – the family has gathered to read the will that the presenter made in 2011.

In the document, he did not recognize Rosa Miriam di Matteo as a partner in a stable union and called his sister, Freed Aparecida, as responsible for the care of his estate (property divided among the heirs). In it, the presenter left 75% of the estate to three children with Rose: twins and João Augusto by Matteo Liberato, aged 21 – and the remaining 25% for the five grandchildren; in addition to assigning a life pension to the mother, Dona Maria do Céuof 163 thousand reais.

Now, Rose is demanding recognition of a stable union with the presenter over the 20 years they lived together. If the Justice of São Paulo recognizes the request, it will be entitled to the communicator’s estate – half of the inheritance. The other 50% will be passed on to the three children.

Gugu Liberato spent $10,000 a month on her life so that Rose Miriam could cover her personal expenses and family home in Orlando, USA. In 2021, the Court of Justice of São Paulo ruled that the amount should be kept and paid from the presenter’s estate. Rose claims that the amount was not paid correctly and collects the amounts.

Hearings postponed to June

The hearings were scheduled for May 22, 23 and 24, but the last two days they were postponed to June. The decision of the judge of the 9th Family and Probate Court of the Central Court of São Paulo must be heard by all witnesses. For example, Rose Miriam’s witnesses were scheduled for the 23rd.

“We are in no hurry. We just hope justice is done with proof that the widow, Rose Miriam, has been in a stable relationship with Gugu Liberato,” he said in a statement. Nelson Williamsa lawyer who represents Rose and her daughters Sofia and Marina. The trial proceeds in the secrecy of justice.

The twins support their mother and the eldest remains silent

On Monday 22 Sofia and Marina Liberato testified before the Justice of San Paolo e the mother argued. O Estadão confirmed that during the hearing, which lasted about three hours, João Augusto Liberato, eldest son of Rose and Gugu, preferred not to make any statement, remaining silent. Aparecida Liberato e André LiberatoEven , the presenter’s nephew, has decided not to speak. The three are represented by the lawyer Dilermando Cigagna.

Two days later, João Augusto spoke about the hearings on Instagram for the first time. The young man, who is on the side of his aunt Aparecida Liberato, who has been appointed executor of the presenter’s inheritance, he condemned the criticism he received for remaining silentduring the testimonies of the nuns.

“It’s not true that I preferred to remain silent during the hearing, I didn’t speak because it wasn’t the time to make myself heard”. Furthermore, João Augusto said that, during the hearing, “it was very sad to see and hear so many things that weren’t true.”

“I am a private and discreet person like my father was. I didn’t really want to speak publicly about this case, but all the rumors about yesterday’s hearing, and everything that was said about me, forced me to write this message It’s about being present and it’s not true that I preferred to remain silent during the hearing, I didn’t speak because it wasn’t the time to listen to me”, he began.

“I have a lot to talk about and I also had to hold back from speaking when the time was not right. It was very sad to see and hear so many things that were not true, but I respected the rules of the public. Everything I have experienced is very sad and incredibly useless. My father taught me so many things and what I want is to go on with my life honoring all of that,” he lamented.

Finally, the major reiterated his decision to support Gugu’s original decision. “Everything he did was very well thought out and his decisions were always focused on the greater good of all. Anyone who really knew him knows his strong integrity and intelligence in decision making. And today I see that his life and his history are not respected like a pack of lies. My father does not deserve it and I will do everything to defend the truth and his memory,” he said.

In Estadão, the twins’ lawyer, Nelson Wilians, commented on João Augusto’s allegations. He reiterates that the young man kept silent and that he should have asked to be heard.

“His lawyers and the other part of the family should have asked for him to be heard (which he did not do) and for him to be able to speak at the hearing. After all, he was from the United States, he attended the hearing and, together with Aparecida and cousin André, witnessed the interrogation of their mother and sisters in total and complete silence,” Wilians said.
