Discover Tina Turner’s villa in a French village where she enjoyed herself in peace

Singer was always kind to local merchants, opening doors for the census and giving gifts to employees

Tina Turner died on one of her properties in Switzerland, where she lived for 28 years with her German husband Erwin Bach. But the queen of rock’s first European address was far from Zurich.

In 1992, he bought a typical French villa on a hilltop overlooking the Mediterranean in Villefranche-sur-Mer, near Cannes.

The site has a large palace with terraces, an amphitheater in the garden and a swimming pool overlooking the sea. A renovation overseen by the singer included Greek columns and ancient stonework in the gardens.

Tina Turner was discreet, but her presence never went unnoticed. In a bathing suit, she took swimming lessons in the pool. She frequented the typical shops and restaurants of the city.

She was repeatedly seen having fun at the Whiskey à Gogo nightclub, where she made friends, and aboard luxury yachts with friends.

Once, the Census Bureau knocked on his door. She invited him in and answered all of his questions as an ordinary resident. At the end of the year he distributed gifts and thank you cards to his employees.

The simplicity of the music star delighted the celebrity-averse French. And there, without the flattery that irritated her, Tina Turner lived “serene and free”, as she said when she received the title of honorary citizen in the city hall in 1995.

That year the rocker settled in Swiss territory, but often returned to the French refuge. In 2010 he sold the property called Anna Fleur (Anna Flor). Anna was the first name of the legendary artist.

Similar to a fortress, the house has more than 20 rooms and a large outdoor area surrounded by greenery.

The singer ordered the installation of stones and other elements that made the property even more interesting.
