Monster or Gentleman: The Secrets of Till Lindemann’s Personal Life

At the end of May 2023, the singer of the German group Rammstein was at the center of a sex scandal. Dozens of girls have accused the rock star of harassment, and now the Berlin police are controlling the singer. Passions are running high around Lindemann: some are calling for its “cancellation”, others have defended the rocker, sincerely believing that he has been the victim of insults. So what kind of person is this Till Lindemann really? We understand.

Youth in the GDR

Till Lindemann was born on January 4, 1963 in Leipzig, but his early years were spent between a home in Rostock and a farm in the Mecklenburg countryside. Her parents were a couple for a long time, but did not live together. The mother of future rock musician Brigitte Lindemann worked as a radio and television journalist, and her father, Werner Lindemann, was a well-known author of children’s books in the GDR.

At first, together with his younger sister, Till lived with his mother in Rostock, and in the early 1980s he moved to his father’s farm and began to learn the trade – he created various wooden agricultural tools. Relations with his father were not easy: before this meeting, Till and Werner rarely spoke, and now the creaking of the characters creaked.

Werner Lindemann died in 1993 of cancer, unaware that his son would soon succeed and become the leader of the most popular German band in the world. Rammstein was founded in 1994.

However, life could well have turned for Till not to collect stadiums, but gold medals. In his youth, he took swimming seriously. In 1978, at the European Youth Championships, he finished seventh at a distance of 1500 m, after which the coaches began to take a closer look at the promising athlete and even considered the possibility of including him in the Olympic team to participate in the 1980 Games in Moscow. But one case ended that chance – Lindemann was dropped from the list of candidates after leaving the hotel without permission during competitions in Italy and talking with athletes from West Germany. In 1979, Till was injured and sporting prospects completely died out.

Three children and a grandson

Lindemann married twice, and family life began quite early – for the first time the future rock musician became a father at the age of 22. In 1985, her daughter Nele was born. Little is known about the first marriage, except that it was difficult and unsuccessful. As journalist Michelle Bettendorf wrote in her 2002 book The Origins of the Punk Scene, Till was a single father and raised his daughter alone until she was seven years old.

Then Lindemann remarried – journalist Anja Kesling became his chosen one. In 1993, their daughter Marie-Louise was born.

In 2017, in an interview with Playboy, the musician admitted that he also had a son, but did not reveal details of the relationship with the child’s mother. Lindemann also managed to become a grandfather – in 2008 the eldest daughter of the rocker gave birth to a son, Fritz Fidel.

love for young women

Although rockers are always shrouded in a veil of promiscuity and endless romance, Till Lindemann’s personal life until recently was not the #1 topic of the yellow press. In the life of a musician there was even a rather long relationship with actress Sofia Tomalla – from 2011 to 2015. True, this novel still stirs the audience. The fact is that at the beginning of the love story of Sofia was only 18 years old. Lindemann is 26 years older than her. The girl’s mother was at first adamantly opposed to their relationship and even urged Lindemann to “take your hands off” her daughter. But in the end, Till and Sofia became a solid couple and even after their separation they remained friends. Against the backdrop of ongoing charges against the rocker, Sofia has also come to his defense.

Lindemann was reportedly in a relationship with podcaster Leila Lofire and model Irenna Lah, who were also much younger than the rocker.

Well, the alleged affair with Svetlana Loboda has long been discussed in the Russian press. In fact, it turned out to be just a PR story about the Ukrainian singer, who until the last moment intrigued the public, hinting that she also gave birth to her daughter Tilda of a German singer.

Lindemann rarely commented on his novels, but if he spoke about women, then in a provocative style.

The outrageous quote from a 2017 interview with Playboy Till magazine is remembered even now when the harassment story breaks.

So Lindemann said the following:

“I am not friends with women. I think friendship between a man and a woman is possible if you have slept together before. Then maybe.”

At the same time, in private life, the rocker, who sometimes behaves defiantly on stage, looks more like a typical bourgeois than a rebel. In his spare time, Lindemann enjoys fishing and hunting.

What is Till Lindemann accused of?

The musician’s name is currently making headlines as dozens of women have accused him of violence and harassment. It all started like this: After a Rammstein concert in Lithuania, a young Irish girl named Shelby Lynn said that at the band’s after-party, a drug had been added to her drink. After that, she didn’t remember anything and woke up the next morning with bruises all over her body. Although Shelby said Till didn’t personally touch her, she said the girls were invited to these parties specifically to have sex with Lindemann. Soon other women online started sharing their stories.

Reports also surfaced that Till Lindemann had a personal assistant, a Russian named Alena Makeeva, who selected women for him for pre- and post-concert parties. We have already told you more about who Alena Makeeva is. Lindemann is currently under police control.

Lindemann rarely speaks to the media – and certainly not about his personal life.

“Some people are just looking for someone to judge. Over time you’ll develop thick skin. But it’s still gross,” he said in a 2009 interview with Welt.

When asked if he had ever felt offended by bad headlines, he replied, “Yes. Especially when, for example, my children ask: “Is it really true?”.

So this time, Till has yet to personally comment on the situation, but the Rammstein Group released an official statement in which they denied all accusations.

Now the word belongs to the Berlin police.
