Spotify ends partnership with Harry and Meghan

The Spotify platform and the couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have concluded the contract of 20 million dollars, equal to 96 million R$, to carry out projects for the audio platform. The information was disclosed through a press release, which indicates that the separation was amicable.

“Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series they have made together,” the statement read.

Due to this decision, the podcast “Archetypes” (“Archetypes” in Portuguese) will not win a new season for streaming.

The Dukes of Sussex’s project with the platform debuted in 2022 and was a hit with the public. Despite the end of the contract with Spotify, the podcast can migrate to another platform. According to the British portal Express, a spokesperson for the couple said Meghan would continue “to develop content for the programme’s audience on another platform”.

Podcast captivated audiences and won an award

“Archetypes” was hosted by Meghan herself and discussed female stereotypes. In the 12 episodes released, the podcast has brought illustrious guests such as Mariah Carey and Serena Williams. Moreover, the attraction has also received historians and specialists.

A success with the public, the podcast ranked 1st in the platform’s ranking of the most listened to in several countries. The production also won the best podcast category at the People’s Choice Award, an American popular vote award.

It is worth noting that “Archetypes” was one of the couple’s first commercial projects after moving to the United States. The podcast is produced by Archewell, a non-profit organization founded by Harry and Meghan, focused on multimedia productions.

Netflix could be next

With the end of the partnership with Spotify, rumors are growing that Netflix should also follow the same path. According to journalist and royal commentator, Daniela Elser, the streaming giant has to cancel the ‘Harry & Meghan’ series, which debuted on the platform in December 2022.

“It’s been over two and a half years since they signed their names on the dotted line,” he told news.com.au.

The production showed the controversial backstage the couple faced with the royal family. Racism, media harassment, and serious allegations were some of the topics covered in the 6-episode docuseries. After the premiere, “Harry & Meghan” created an unpleasant atmosphere in the royal family.

Six months after the first season was released, Netflix has yet to comment on the status of the series. Considering the prolonged silence, it is likely that the stream will not renew the production of Archewell for new episodes.
