It’s terrible: how an affair with a rock star in the 90s traumatized Chloé Sevigny

If you’ve ever wondered why Chloe Sevigny doesn’t star in blockbusters and large-scale Hollywood projects, then here’s the answer.

Chloe Sevigny’s career began with auteur cinema. In 1995, she made her debut in one of the leading roles in the film “Kids” by independent director and film newcomer Larry Clark. In the world of underground and auteur cinema, the cassette has become an event, and its provocative content has truly outraged the public. Chloe began to appear regularly, but again and again she chose to work in the realm of “films not for everyone” and did not particularly aspire to mainstream projects.

Why did this happen? It turns out that the actress was so influenced by an affair with the famous British singer and leader of the Britpop group Pulp, Jarvis Cocker. Chloe met him in the late 1990s when the team was just at the height of glory.

“I was in my early twenties at the time, I was dating British pop star Jarvis Cocker, and pop stars are, of course, much more famous than even actors. I remember driving with him in those remote towns in Wales and the teenagers running after us in the streets. I thought, ‘This is terrible!’ I saw how much it affected him, and that’s when I decided that I never wanted to be a celebrity of that level. I think that’s why I decided to do what I do – just work with directors that I like and do work that means something to Me.”– Sevigny admitted in a 2009 interview.

Chloe’s filmography to date consists mainly of independent and auteur cinema, although she managed to work with recognized masters of the genre, whose films become an event. For example, with Lars von Trier and Jim Jarmusch.

But with British rock stars, Chloe bonded – in 2020 she married Croatian gallerist Sinisa Makovich and gave birth to a son from him.
