Singer Britney Spears returned to protests after accusing NBA star Victor Wembanyama’s security guard of assault on Wednesday (7/6) during an attempt to talk to the player at a restaurant in Las Vegas, U.S. United States. In a series of Instagram posts, the singer compared her situation to the time she was under the guardianship of her father.
Spears highlighted the contrast between the situation and her previous experiences in show business, also recalling her time dating Justin Timberlake, then on ‘N Sync. “I’ve been in the industry for years and have been with some of the most famous people in the world. ‘N Sync, at one point, was like the Beatles. Girls would throw themselves at them everywhere we went. Not once in my life is what happened… of a security guard hitting someone else!” he wrote.
The reaction of the singer
Britney admitted her reaction to the incident wasn’t the best, but attributed it to the history of disrespect she’s suffered in recent years. “Was my reaction priceless…mean? Yes. I felt helpless in most situations and my experience in Vegas and my reaction was a hoot on every level! No, I don’t feel treated like an equal person in this country”.
The singer added: “Of course, when I watched the video myself, I saw that people who really flocked to me when they heard me hit and made me feel like I mattered! I didn’t know at the time . people I could hear me saying fuck you”.
Despite the incident, Britney stressed that she is still a huge fan of the NBA player. “It’s not her fault that security hit me. Shit happens. I hope everyone has a great Friday.”
The different versions of the accident
The singer reports that she recognized Wembanyama in the hotel lobby and, as a good fan, she just wanted to congratulate him on his career. She says she approached him from behind her, touching his shoulder, and did not grab him, as previously reported.
In her recount, Britney said, “Then, her confidence slapped me across the face without even looking back, in front of a crowd. I almost fell to the floor and knocked my glasses off my face.”

Despite the situation involving Wembanyama, the player revealed that he didn’t recognize the singer and let the security guard remove her as a safety measure. “I’ve never seen her face,” he told the press. “There was someone calling me but security told me I couldn’t stop because she would attract a crowd.”
“This person grabbed me from behind. I didn’t see what happened because I was walking in a straight line and I didn’t stop and this person grabbed me from behind so I let the security take them away. But I don’t know how much it is difficult,” he continued. “The security guard took it away and I didn’t stop and watch. I just kept walking and enjoyed a nice dinner.”
She further explained that she only knew the person in question was Britney Spears moments after the incident. “Obviously I saw the news, I woke up to some phone calls. Something happened as I was entering the restaurant with the security team. We were in the corridor. There were a lot of people,” she revealed.
“When I got back to the hotel, I didn’t forget about it, but I thought it was no big deal. And then [me disseram] that was Britney Spears. At first I thought: ‘No, you’re kidding!’ But yeah, she happened to be Britney Spears.”
