For Meryl Streep, there’s no role she couldn’t fill. The actress brilliantly transforms into a wanderer, journalist, witch and despotic editor-in-chief. Each of her roles is worthy of an Oscar, but, alas, not for each of them she received an award. Streep’s first starring appearance was in 1975, when she appeared on stage at the Joseph Papp Theater in the play 27 Wagons of Cotton. The debut of the actress was highly appreciated by critics and viewers, and the girl was nominated for a prestigious theater award.
The first screen role went to the young actress two years later – she was an episodic character in “Julia”, but her work did not go unnoticed. The picture was an incredible success and won three Oscars, and Streep, which received a small fraction of fame, became popular with directors.
“Thistle” (1987)
The years of the Great Depression in the United States. Jack Philan was once a famous baseball player, but he made mistakes and became a homeless alcoholic. He has a girlfriend, Helen, who is also impoverished and unable to return to a normal life.
“Silkwood” (1983)
Meryl Streep brilliantly played the role of Karen Silkwood, a fighter for truth. An ordinary woman works day and night in a factory. One day, not the prettiest, she learns that several employees (including herself) are exposed to radioactive radiation. The fuel rods are defective, but the factory management hides it. She travels to Washington to seek justice.
