Mano Brown is nominated for the title of Doctor Honoris Causa at the Federal University of Southern Bahia

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the hip-hopthe Federal University of Southern Bahia will grant the title of Doctor Honoris Causa THE Brown hand. According to information disseminated on the institute’s website, the granting of the title was approved on Wednesday 16 by the University Council.

the title of honorary doctor it is awarded to individuals who have made notable contributions to the advancement of the arts, culture, science, or literature, but who have never earned a doctorate in the traditional way.

The proposal aims to “highlight the importance of the artist who transcends hip hop and rap music, acclaimed for his authenticity and for representing the voice of suburban residents”. The Rector Joana Angélica Guimarães declared:

“The unanimously approved title reflects the importance placed by our community on the work developed by Mano Brown, in art, culture and above all in the dialogue with young black men and women of the suburbs who see in Mano Brown’s music a form of expression that gives them a voice, when society denies them”.

If accepted, the artist will receive the honor in a formal session scheduled for November. Mano has not commented on the title so far.

“A degree like this is not something unique and individual. It’s not for the recipient, in this case Pedro Paulo, Mano Brown, it’s not for someone who recognizes their importance as an artist and a leader. It’s something that points to the importance of what Hip Hop has bequeathed us over the years, the identity of the suburbs and the possibility of dreaming in the face of so much misery and suffocation,” said Richard Santos, pro-rector of the Pro-Rectory of Extension and Culture ( Proex) of the FSB.
