Bradley Cooper he vented about his past while participating in the program “Celebrity Tries It All: The Challenge”presented by Bear Crickets [via Page Six]. According to the 48-year-old actor, his addiction to drugs and alcohol nearly killed him.

“You sure had some wild years?”the announcer asked. “In terms of alcohol and drugs, yes, but nothing to do with fame. But I was lucky. I got sober at 29, I’ve been sober for 19 years. Very lucky.”explained Bradley, who also revealed that he has found solace in cocaine and alcohol for the pain he felt after rupturing his Achilles tendon.

The star, however, almost had a relapse in 2011 when her father passed away after a battle with cancer.

I definitely had a nihilistic attitude towards the afterlife, as if I thought, ‘I’m going to die.’ I don’t know, it wasn’t good for a while until I figured I need to embrace who I really am and try to find peace with that, and then things leveled off.”

Despite the difficult situation, Cooper did not give up and remained sober. And while addiction may have hampered his work in the past, his struggle with drugs helped him fulfill his role as addict Jackson Maine in the film “A star was born” (2018).

“It’s gotten easier to really get in there”he said. “And thank God I was at a point in my life where I was comfortable with all of that, so I could really let go.”

“I’ve been very lucky with the roles I’ve had to play. It’s been a real blessing. I can’t wait to continue doing it.”completed.
