Real scam artist “Inventing Anna” hosts a New York Fashion Week show

Under house arrest for her scams while awaiting possible deportation, fake heiress Anna Delvey (real name: Anna Sorokin) hosted a Shao fashion show during New York Fashion Week. Unable to leave her home, Sorokin, who became famous for deceiving New York’s elite and later played by Julia Garner in the Netflix miniseries “Inventing Anna,” hosted the event on the rooftop of her East Village building .

The event was coordinated by Kelly Cutrone, known for the reality show “Kell on Earth.” She and Sorokin (who still prefers to be called Delvey, the fake name that made her popular) are partners in a “pop-up public relations agency” called OutLaw. “It’s very difficult for new designers to get attention, and I can get publicity — bad publicity, any publicity — just by leaving the house to take out the trash,” Sorokin told the New York Times, underscoring the cynicism implicit in the collaboration. .

Now it’s fashionable

The Shao brand, which mixes streetwear, office fashion and corsets in its creations, is led by Shao Yang, and really managed to attract the attention of the press with the unusual choice of location for his show. Shao also dressed Sorokin in a black tuxedo, with legs long enough to hide the ankle monitor and rhinestone-encrusted shoulders.

In addition to the traditional press, the event attracted names such as Olivier Zahm, editor of Purple magazine, and Nicola Formichetti, collaborator of Lady Gaga. “I’m fascinated by her [Sorokin/Delvey] for a long time and, like everyone else, I’m waiting to see what he does next,” said Formichetti, who called the pop-up agency’s name “brilliant.”

Parade of the Outlaws

Held on the roof of Sorokin’s building due to a lack of space in his apartment, the event brought with it logistical challenges. The models arrived on a party bus and crowded into the building’s narrow corridors before entering the show space. Kelly Cutrone estimated the attendance of around 100 guests.

Furthermore, everything happened outside of the law. The event did not have the necessary authorizations from the local authorities, thus becoming an illegal act. Sources close to the organization indicate that the necessary licenses to hold the parade on public roads have not been acquired, which could result in fines or legal action against the organizers. This fact adds a layer of controversy to the event, which has left some of Sorokin’s neighbors perplexed and disgruntled, further fueling the debate over the unusual strategies employed by new designers to capture attention in a saturated market.

“There are no more rules,” Cutrone said. “Anything could happen.”
