The Rock returns to wrestling during the Hollywood strikes

Out of work due to strikes in Hollywood, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returned to wrestling Friday night (9/15) with an appearance on “WWE Friday Night Smackdown,” broadcast from the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. As expected, the audience went wild, giving the actor a four-minute standing ovation.

Pat McAfee livened up his appearance at the event. “This is the people’s show. And you know what that means,” McAfee said as The Rock made his entrance.

A quick fight

The fight of the night pitted The Rock against Austin Theory. Johnson has not appeared on Smackdown since 2019 due to his film commitments. However, his memory for the fight script was intact. When Theory began to provoke him, asking, “Do you know whose ring this is?”, Johnson replied, “Shut up. You clearly don’t know how this whole thing works.” Then he took off his jacket and yelled, “The Rock is finally back in Denver!”

The highlight of the fight was The Rock’s use of his signature move, the “People’s Elbow”, which ended the fight with the first strike.

John Cena also fought

Also in attendance was The Rock’s old rival John Cena, who took advantage of his free time in Hollywood to face Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa during the program. Cena and Johnson shared a moment before the fight, and later, Cena posted: “The best nights are the ones where we remember that we’re all fans. Welcome back, The Rock.”

The Rock’s return to the WWE ring served to demonstrate the public’s affection for the actor, who is in a period of professional inactivity caused by the actor’s and screenwriter’s strikes in Hollywood.
