Larissa Manoela’s mother allegedly failed to testify regarding the intolerance investigation

Silvana Taques, mother of Larissa Manoela, would not appear in the statement in which she was asked to explain her controversial speech against André Luiz Frambach’s family. She was supposed to report to the Police Station for Racial Crimes and Offenses of Intolerance (Decradi) in Rio de Janeiro, but, according to columnist Fábia Oliveira, she did not show up on the scheduled date.

In a press release, Rio’s Civil Police said only that “one of the people involved is expected to give a statement.”

The investigation

Decradi investigates Silvana’s religious intolerance, after a printout of a conversation showed her calling Larissa Manoela’s boyfriend’s family “macumbeira”, which was seen pejoratively.

André Luiz Frambach was also summoned and has already declared that he “does not feel offended or discriminated against on a religious level” by his mother-in-law. Larissa Manoela, in her turn, obtained habeas corpus to not testify against her mother.

Religious intolerance

According to what is known, Larissa Manoela is the daughter of an evangelical father and a Catholic mother, as well as having studied as a child in an Adventist school (recommended by the Seventh-day Adventist Church). Apparently, the actress’s parents were uncomfortable with André’s family’s religion, which follows spiritualism according to the teachings of Allan Kardec.

It is worth remembering that the complaint did not come from the Frambach family, but from the Commission for the Fight against Religious Intolerance of the State of Rio de Janeiro, in collaboration with the Center for the Articulation of Marginalized Populations (CEAP).

After the fallout from the case, Silvana Taques argued for the SBT program Fofocalizando that the term was used in a moment of vulnerability: “These words were said in a moment of extreme sadness and had no intention of causing offense.”
