Geraldo Matheus Torloni, actor and theater director, died this Friday (29/9) at the age of 93 at the Unimed-Rio Hospital, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The information was confirmed by her daughter, actress Christiane Torloni, who revealed that the cause of death was natural. The artist had been hospitalized since September 10.
Trajectory and legacy
Geraldo Matheus has had a multifaceted career in the arts, working not only as an actor, but also as a director, producer, theater administrator and author. He was one of the pioneers of the São Paulo School of Dramatic Arts, joining the first class in 1948. In 1954 he married Monah Delacy, a drama teacher.
In addition to his work on stage and behind the scenes, Geraldo directed the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and the former Teatro Bloch, contributing significantly to the Brazilian theater scene.
Daughter’s tribute
On social media, Christiane Torloni paid tribute to her father. “I salute my beloved father, Geraldo Matheus, grateful for the beautiful journey we have traveled together. Grateful for the Art, Ethics and Love with which he has blessed me. And as Oscar Wilde says: ‘The mystery of’ Love is greater than the mystery of Death,'” the actress wrote.
Geraldo leaves behind his wife Monah Delacy, two children, Christiane and Márcio Torloni, a grandson, Leonardo Carvalho, and a great-grandson, Lucca Carvalho. The wake and burial are scheduled for Saturday (30/9), in Rio de Janeiro, in an intimate ceremony for family and close friends.
