“I had the strength and courage to separate to give priority to myself, to look and say: ‘I will not stay in a bad marriage, I will not have someone by my side who does not treat me well (…) The relationships were already bad before the illness. Then I discovered that they had been having an extramarital affair for a long time, which justifies many things that were not going well in my marriage. Preta reiterated the importance of looking after one’s mental health as fundamental in the cancer treatment process. “I faced, in the midst of cancer treatment, a separation, a betrayal, a bomb within a bomb.
