Gabriela Duarte describes moments of terror in Israel: ‘Survival mode’

Gabriela Duarte recounted her terrifying experience in Israel during a live interview with GloboNews. The actress was in the country with her family when the attacks by the terrorist group Hamas occurred. “Not even in my wildest nightmares would I have imagined this,” Regina Duarte’s daughter said.

Initially the journey had an emotional and cultural character. “Everything was calm, it seemed like a serene and peaceful journey, with my children, to present a dream, like mine and that of my ex-husband. To present this country with which they have a connection, since they are children of Jews”, she explained Gabriela Duarte.

Sirens and bunkers

The scenario changed dramatically the next day, when the actress and her family were awakened by bombs and sirens at six in the morning. “No one could understand what was happening. We knew we had to protect ourselves. That day there were so many sirens, so many sirens, one after the other, and we went up and down the bunker, several times a day,” he explained.

Faced with the scenario of conflict, Gabriela and her ex-husband, the photographer Jairo Goldflus, decided to leave Israel. With the help of a tour guide they managed to board a flight with the Israeli airline El Al to Prague, in the Czech Republic. “The flight was supposed to leave at midnight, we took off at 2 in the morning. Thank God,” said Gabriela , adding that the airport was full of people trying to leave the country.

Emotional impact on children

According to Gabriela, her children Manuela and Frederico, aged 17 and 11 respectively, are traumatized by the experience. “It was very difficult for them. This trip had a completely emotional character, a connection with religion, with their culture, with their roots and suddenly the trip became… We all had to go into survival mode” , the actress complained.

“Manuela, at 17, now has a little more tools to digest all this. Fred was very, very, very scared. He was crying, he was very scared by that situation, not knowing what could happen to him. with his family, so we talked about it a lot,” he added.

Gabriela Duarte concluded her report by stating that, despite the terror experienced, the fact that the family was united was fundamental. “I wonder if he and I had stayed in Brazil [Jairo] he had made this trip alone with the children. I would be completely crazy. This feeling of all being together was also very important, we experienced it together. We will definitely come out of this stronger,” she said.

Interviewed by the newspaper O Globo, she added: “It’s a difficult situation to digest. Even now I’m trying to understand… I keep hearing sirens wherever I go. Even an ambulance passing by on the street or a police siren make me feel very surprised. My children (are like that too).”

The actress, who is currently in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, from where she will leave for Italy to return to Brazil, also posted on Instagram the photos taken on her first day in Israel, a few hours before the beginning of the conflict.
