Bruno Mars managed to leave Israel on Saturday afternoon (10/7) after canceling a show he was going to give at night in the country hit by attacks by the extremist group Hamas. The singer and his team of around 60 people dropped off the tour’s musical equipment before heading to Athens, Greece.

Billboard reported that Mars also had to cancel the final performance of the tour, in Doha, Qatar. This was his first tour in Israel, which took place on Wednesday (10/4) at Yarson Park, Tel Aviv, when the artist sang a song in Hebrew in honor of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

Bruno Mars was about to join the list of artists who performed two sold-out shows at the Israeli venue, as did Madonna and Michael Jackson, but was prevented from doing so by attacks from the extremist group Hamas.

The scenario in Israel has been very tense since Saturday morning (7/10), when Hamas launched 5,000 rockets into the country and invaded Israeli territory through the Gaza Strip, taking hostages and setting houses on fire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on the group in a video: “The enemy will pay a price he has never known.”

This Wednesday (10/11), Israel claimed to have managed to destroy an aircraft detection defense system developed by Hamas. This is the fifth day of conflict in the region, which has already caused more than 2,000 Israeli and Palestinian deaths. The extremist group faces difficulties in monitoring the skies above Gaza Strip and identify military aircraft.

The Hamas attacks come on the fiftieth anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, a conflict that left more than 10,000 dead and lasted 20 days. The current situation is a reminder of the lasting impact of this historic event on the region.
