Digital influencer Laura Alvarenga Pires Lima was on a cruise in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro, recording videos of the scenery for her Instagram when, suddenly, she heard cries for help. The requests came from six survivors of the shipwreck at sea off Ilha Grande on Sunday 19th. The young woman recorded the entire moment and shared it with her followers.

“Look guys. How beautiful! It’s all blue here. It’s not an effect. It’s all blue, it’s starting to get dark. What the fuck is this? There’s someone screaming for help. It’s in the middle of the sea over there ? “There is someone there asking for help,” Laura said on the social network.

Afterward, she and a friend went to get help. While her friend chased the cruise employees, Laura called the front desk.

A few minutes later, Laura recorded the moment the cruise director warned of the sinking: “Ladies and gentlemen, one minute of your attention, please. This is the cruise director speaking on behalf of the captain. At 6 p.m. :00 a vessel was sighted nearby” in an incident. We are currently involved in a rescue operation. We are in constant contact with the coast guard. As soon as we have more information, we will make a further announcement.”

Subsequently, the influencer returned to social media and announced that the victims had been saved. “You found it! Wow, thank God. Let’s celebrate. I don’t think on any day in my life I thought I’d see something like that. And I didn’t even want to see it, because it’s scary,” she said.

The shipwreck

The ship that sank and was found on Sunday 19th was carrying seven amateur fishermen. According to the Civil Protection, one of the crew members did not survive. The others rescued were handed over to the coast guard and received medical treatment.

“The six men, aged between 40 and 70, were initially treated at the Vila Abraão health centre. From there they were shipped to the mainland, arriving at the Japuíba Municipal Hospital between Sunday and the early hours of Monday, 8pm”, informed the Civil Protection. The shipwreck occurred on the afternoon of Saturday 18th.

According to the program RJTV, as of Wednesday 22nd, three of the survivors had already been discharged and three others were still hospitalized. The Brazilian Navy and the Civil Police are investigating the causes of the accident.
