King Charles III is expected to go to hospital next week to receive treatment after being diagnosed with an enlarged prostate.

Buckingham Palace said the king’s condition was benign but that he would undergo a “corrective procedure”.

The 75-year-old king’s public engagements will be postponed for a short recovery period, the palace said.

The announcement was made shortly after news broke that the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, is hospitalized after undergoing abdominal surgery.

“Like thousands of men every year, the king sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the statement said.

Benign enlargement of the prostate is common in men over the age of 50 and is generally not a serious condition, according to the website of the NHS, the United Kingdom’s public health system.

The condition does not mean that the patient is at increased risk of developing prostate cancer.

The news is being updated and more details will be published soon.
