Alec Baldwin faces new charges over an incident on the set of ‘Rust’ this week; understand

According to New Mexico authorities, this Thursday, 1st, new charges against Alec Baldwin in relation to the 2021 death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rustwill be shown.

The actor had already been acquitted of the charges in April last year. But on January 19, a New Mexico jury revived the case. At that moment, the gun Baldwin was practicing with went off, hitting the cinematographer, who died instantly.

The new charges were presented to the 12-person grand jury in New Mexico’s First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe, and at least eight jurors had to agree that probable cause existed to indict the director. At the time, Baldwin’s lawyers released a statement in which he said, “We look forward to our day in court.”

In New Mexico, a manslaughter conviction can carry up to 18 months in prison.

After the accident, the actor claims that he is not responsible for the cinematographer’s death. Alec Baldwin stated that the team of Rust informed him that the gun was not loaded and that there should be no live ammunition on the film set.

Although he claimed not to have pulled the trigger at the time of the shot, an expert opinion established that he must have necessarily pulled the trigger for the gun to fire. This information helped bring forward new accusations.

Hannah Guiterrez-Reed, the security protocol officer who provided the weapon during the recording, is also charged with manslaughter. David Halls, the assistant director who handed the gun to Baldwin, accepted a misdemeanor charge in a deal with prosecutors.
