Disney has released the poster and teaser for “Abracadabra 2”, the sequel to the popular 90’s witch children’s movie. But until the fun original characters appear on the scene, the preview feels more like a new sequel to “Young Witches”, with dramatic and dark scenes.

Released in 1993, the first feature film told the story of Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy), three 17th-century witches who arrived in the present after their spirits were summoned on Halloween. However, they must face three children and a talking cat, willing to derail their plans to ensure their immortality.

The Kenny Ortega-directed production (“The Descendants”) became a big Disney hit for kids, and its stars never gave up on the campaign for a sequel.

The project was finally confirmed after an impromptu re-release of the film during the pandemic achieved remarkable results, earning around $ 5 million in a handful of US theaters, despite also being played on TV around the same time.

In the sequel, the witches returned to Salem to the present day after being summoned by three teenagers, played by Whitney Peak (“Gossip Girl”), Lilia Buckingham (“Crown Lake”) and Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories”).

Director Anne Fletcher (“The Proposal”) is directing, and the cast also includes Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”) and Tony Hale (“Veep”), as well as Doug Jones (“Star Trek: Discovery”), who plays Billy Butcherson in the original version and will reprise the role in the new film.

The premiere is scheduled for September 30 on the Disney + platform.
