Daniel Alves case: Neymar Sr. and other celebrities talk about paying bail

Daniel Alves was convicted of rape and will be released

Daniel Alves, sentenced by the Barcelona court to 4 years and 6 months for rape, has obtained the right to bail upon payment of bail. Neymar’s father, who was involved in the case, spoke out and said he had not paid 5 million euros. In addition to him, other celebrities such as Leila Pereira and President Lula have commented on the case.

Early in the process, Neymar Sr. helped finance part of Daniel Alves’ fees. This is because he paid a fine of 150,000 euros, around R$800,000, to reduce his sentence. However, the businessman said in a statement that he had not paid the player’s bail.

“As everyone knows, at first I helped Dani Alves, without any connection with any trial. In this second moment, in a situation different from the previous one, in which the Spanish justice has already decided on the sentence, they are hypothesizing and trying to associate my name and that of my son to a matter that is no longer ours to deal with,” Neymar Sr. announced.

Finally, he wished the player positive energy. “I hope that Daniel finds all the answers he is looking for in his family. For us, for my family, the question is closed. Now point!”, he concluded.

Celebrities’ statements on the Daniel Alves case

Palmeiras president Leila Pereira has commented on the CBF’s negligence regarding the rape allegations against Daniel and Robinho. “No one says anything, but I, as a woman here at the head of the delegation, must take a position on the Robinho and Daniel Alves cases. This is a slap in the face to all of us women, especially the case of Daniel Alves, who paid for his freedom. I think that it is important for me to take a stand. Every case of impunity is the seed of the next crime.”

President Lula instead expressed his opinion on the provisional freedom granted by the Barcelona Court. “I learned in Pernambuco, when I was little, that they used to say: ‘Here in the Northeast, anyone with 20 contos de réis is not arrested’, and we see that this maxim continues”, he commented during a demonstration celebrating the Party. Workers’ Anniversary (PT).
