“Panicked,” says SBT presenter after discovering a lump during live program; I wait

Antônio Rahal, the doctor who performed the surgery, said that the thyroid resembles a butterfly. “I found a lump on him, don’t worry, Paulo. From what we see here, it’s a tiny lump. I’ll also measure it,” he said.

The presenter was surprised by the news and questioned the professional. “Doctor, I’m panicking, just tell me if everything’s okay,” he asked. The doctor reassured Paulo, claiming that the probability that the nodule is malignant is less than 5%. He advised Mathias to have an ultrasound once a year.

Rahal was present at the Come closer because the program was about thyroid cancer, explaining that most diagnoses are made via local ultrasound.

The doctor was invited to demonstrate the procedure and encourage more people to do it. The examination was performed using a portable device.

“It all starts with a very simple test, which is an ultrasound. Paulo, through free and spontaneous pressure, will do it here, for real. It’s a real test, there will be a diagnosis”, said Regina Volpato, presenter of the program supported by Paulo Mathias, on the occasion of the presentation of the painting.
