It was chosen in honor of the Stonewall Uprising, an event that took place on this day in 1969, when patrons of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, decided to rebel against the police persecution they suffered.

This story was highlighted by Preta Gil in her Pride Day publication, in which she posted profiles to learn about the cause. “I am so proud to be an openly bisexual woman, I carry this flag everywhere I go,” she wrote.
