The deputy accuses a Portuguese woman of racism against the children of Giovanna Ewbank and Bruno Gagliasso; the couple talks

The case of racism against the children of Giovanna Ewbank AND Bruno Gagliasso, which took place in July 2022, has new features. Portuguese Adélia Barros, who made racist statements against children, Chissomo, la Titi10 years, and Blessings, the To bless9 years old, was accused by the Public Prosecutor (MP) of the crimes of insult, defamation and slander for racist reasons.

The information comes from the newspaper Público. The complaint, substantiated by the plaintiffs’ lawyers in Portugal, was accepted by the MP almost two years after the complaint was made.

Among the insults uttered by Adélia are: “Go to your homeland! We are in Portugal, we don’t want to bring these Brazilian sons of bitches here with us! You are not Portuguese! Go back to Brazil! Go back to Africa! Get out of here! Long live Portugal.”

On the occasion, Adélia Barros addressed the children of the acting couple with expressions such as “You dirty blacks!”, “You blacks, go back to Africa!”, AND “Portugal is no place for black people!”

On social media Bruno and Giovanna spoke about the case:

“Almost 2 years ago we filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor of Portugal after our children and a group of Angolans had been victims of racism. Racism is a crime and cannot be trivialized. Initially we asked that the perpetrator of the crimes was included in the crimes foreseen by article 240 of the Portuguese Penal Code which provides punishments for discrimination and incitement to hatred and violence. The complaint was not accepted, but we never gave up.

Today we can celebrate because the Public Prosecutor’s Office accepted our accusation of defamation and racial insult and overcame a theoretical question on where to classify the crime according to the law. We won, but it’s still a small step. However, we believe that if this process managed to raise public awareness on the issues of the fight against racism, the world could, who knows, one day, be more equal. The next step will be the trial of the racist. We hope to return soon to share another victory. Because we believe!

We thank the Portuguese lawyers Rui Patrício, Catarina Martins Morão and Teresa Sousa Nunes who remain at our side so that justice recognizes racism as a crime, a crime that discriminates, hurts self-esteem and does not allow black people to have opportunities. A crime that kills everywhere in the world. And we must build a society that understands that racism cannot be tolerated, even in the form of hatred disguised as a joke.

Giovanna and Bruno”.
