Otaviano Costa Operated to Correct Aortic Aneurysm: ‘Life Turned Upside Down’

The host Octavian Coast51, revealed this Monday morning, 22, that he was scheduled to undergo surgery on July 10 at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, in São Paulo, after being diagnosed with an ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm. According to what Costa said in a video on his social media, the disease was at a “dangerous” level and could cause irreversible damage or even be fatal if surgery was not performed.

“About 30 days ago my life changed. I was in excellent health, I had no symptoms, but I had a little pain that bothered me…[ele aponta para um local abaixo da costa esquerda]. Since for more or less two years I could not escape to São Paulo to undergo my routine check-up and to understand the evolution of my physical and health conditions, I decided to consult a doctor I did not know, a cardiologist Masetto, on Thursday, June 6, before Flavinha’s birthday”, says Costa, at the beginning of the video.

The presenter then reports that she had an echocardiogram and that the examination revealed the disease and the need for surgery.

He explained what an aortic aneurysm is. “It’s the swelling of the vein and, in my case, it was caused by a valve, called a bicuspid… It’s a tricuspid valve, but I was born with a bicuspid valve, which is to say, the normal thing was to have three small valves, mine had two rods, premolars, so I was pouring a lot of blood into the aorta and lately it has swollen putting my life at risk, with any effort I make, day by day. Even dragging a heavy suitcase, doing a bench press or playing football with a heart beating fast would be fatal,” he said.

Costa says he chose not to say Flavia Alexandra before his birthday, June 7, and not even to his family. The next day he informed his wife of the illness and they, who live in Rio de Janeiro, decided to come to Sao Paulo to consult the doctor Roberto Kalilcardiologist to celebrities such as President Lula and singer-songwriter Gilberto Gil.

The host said the surgery was not easy and lasted about seven hours. Due to the severity, he had to stay in intensive care for three days. Costa, who is still hospitalized, says he is no longer at risk of death.

Moved, in addition to thanking doctors and family, Costa left a warning for his followers.

“I really want to warn you. A simple echocardiogram saved my life. And it is in a SUS of life, in the hospital of your city, in Incor here in São Paulo, or in Sírio like me. I have been blessed to be able to have incredible people not only for their expertise, but for their humanity, golden people that I will love for my whole life. From the moment you discover it, you have the possibility to map it,” he said.
