In a podcast interview Chris Van VlietBautista explained why he lost so much weight. Before losing the weight, he weighed about 300 pounds. “I started losing weight because I was too big for a role,” he said. “I gained weight very quickly and an uncomfortable amount of weight and it took me forever to get rid of it,” he added.

The actor refers to the film Knocking on the doorof the director M. Night Shyamalanin which he plays the protagonist Leonard. The film premiered in February last year. The former fighter said he was questioned by Internet users about an alleged eating disorder, but denied it.

Another motivation for the transformation was the difference between him and the other actors on set. “The more weight I lost, the better I looked on camera. And the better I looked next to the other actors,” he said.

Although he appeared to lose weight quickly, the actor said that “it took forever” before the physical transformation was actually noticed by those around him.

Before working in acting, he was a six-time world champion for the American wrestling organization WWE. He retired from wrestling in 2019 and currently works exclusively as an actor. “I’m not starving or anything like that. Because people have always seen me a lot bigger over the years, they think I’m anorexic. But I’m a big guy,” he concluded.
