On the night of Wednesday 25th there was everything to be a great celebration for the successful career of the famous Greek singer Marinella. The 86-year-old artist was celebrating her career in a special show at the Ancient Odeon of Athens, at the foot of the Acropolis, when she felt ill and fainted on stage. She was taken to a hospital in the capital, where she was diagnosed with a stroke (cerebral vascular accident), and is now undergoing treatment.

The situation occurred while Marinella was singing the third song of her show, Ego kai Esy (OR You and mein translation). Everything seemed fine, until, according to witnesses in the international press, the artist’s voice changed and she seemed to lose her balance while standing. A few seconds later, she fainted on stage.

With the audience “in shock”, the Greek woman was immediately assisted by her personal doctor, again at the Odeon. Shortly after some maneuvers, Marinella was taken to the Ygeia hospital, where she has been hospitalized since then. The medical report of the institute classified what happened as a “serious and extensive” stroke and the team is still trying to stabilize the artist’s health.

Who is Marinella?

In 2024, Marinella will celebrate 67 years of career. Born in 1938, she marked an era by becoming the first singer to represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest, in 1974. On that occasion, the Greek lost against the Swedish group ABBA, who defended the title with the song Waterloo.
