The actor Emiliano Queiroz died at the age of 88 on the morning of this Friday the 4th, in Rio de Janeiro. He had been hospitalized for 10 days at the Clínica São Vicente da Gávea, after three stents had been implanted in his heart. The news of the artist’s death was confirmed on social media by theater producer Eduardo Barata.

“My beloved and dear Seu Emiliano Queiroz, 88 years old, said goodbye this morning to this spiritual plan. Very sad, but also very grateful for the powerful path, the artistic and cultural legacy, that this great man of art leaves to our country. Mr. Emiliano, here on Earth, was already a being of great light, now, on a spiritual level, I am sure he will continue to illuminate and transmit talent, kindness and wisdom.

In Gshow, the actor’s secretary and advisor, Fernando Cézar, reported that he had suffered a cardiac arrest on his way to the clinic, from where he had been discharged. According to the consultant, the actor was at home with his wife, Maria Letícia, when he felt ill.

Information about the location, date and time of the wake and cremation of the body has not yet been confirmed.

Emiliano, born in Aracati, Ceará, has had a career spanning more than seventy years. He began his journey in radio and theater at the age of 8, and his stage debut occurred at 15. Resident in Rio de Janeiro since the 1960s, he has been part of the cast of TV Globo since its foundation . In January he returns to the theater with the show “A Vida Não é Justa” and is on the big screen with the film “Avenida Beira Mar”, which is part of the Rio Film Festival.

On TV Globo, Emiliano gave life to countless characters, including the iconic Dirceu Borboleta in “O Bem-Amado” (1973). He also participated in recent soap operas such as “Senhora do Destino” (2004) and “Éramos Seis” (2020), adding to his resume more than 40 soap operas, as well as series and miniseries.

The character Dirceu Borboleta, known for his anxious manner, with nervous gestures and a characteristic stutter, has become a milestone in the history of Brazilian television. Dirceu Borboleta accompanied Emiliano beyond the success of the telenovela. Between 1980 and 1984, he reprized the role in the series “O Bem-Amado” and, in 1994, in “Escolinha do Professor Raimundo”.

In addition to his extensive television contribution, Emiliano has acted in more than 60 films and more than 60 plays, also distinguishing himself in cinema and on stage.

Married for 51 years to Maria Letícia, a 77-year-old lawyer and actress, Emiliano helped raise 14 children together with his wife, as well as leaving behind eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
