José Luiz Datena will not return to TV Band screens in 2024 and has an uncertain future at the broadcaster, according to information from journalist Gabriel Vaquer, of the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo. The presenter left the channel in July this year to run for mayor of São Paulo. The bet, however, did not live up to expectations and the then PSDB candidate received only 112,344 votes (1.84%).

The channel’s management reportedly took this decision due to the erosion of the anchor’s image during the election run. In one of the controversial episodes of the campaign, Datena threw a chair at Pablo Marçal (PRTB) during a debate promoted by TV Cultura.

For a possible return to Urgent Brazil or another attraction, it is understood that the presenter needs to rest his image. For now the program continues to be hosted by Joel Datena, Datena’s son, who has a contract until 2027.

Uncertain future

Without the prospect of returning to the radio this year, Datena may have already finished her cycle at the Band, where she has worked since 2003. This is because the presenter’s contract is valid until December of this year.

Although there is already a verbal agreement for the renewal, according to the editorialist the signing has not yet been completed. A conversation between Datena and the channel’s executives is expected to take place next week to define the next steps.

Also according to Vaquer, the future of the presenter divides opinions in the gang. The final decision, however, will be up to Johnny Saad, president of the broadcaster and friend of Datena.
