She is the owner of a real empire. What started as a venture, producing makeup videos for the Internet, has grown into a million-dollar company. AND Mari Maria (31) undertakes to control every phase of the activity.
Her audience – there are more than 60 million followers on social media – may think they know her, but the new reality show Mari and the Marysfrom DiaTV, reveals her intimacy next to her husband, Rudy Rochaof children, David (4) e Noah (2), and the rest of the family, with nothing to hide. To talk about this and other challenges, Mari opened the doors of her apartment in São Paulo BOYS and revealed its various versions.
– In 2024 you will complete ten years as an influencer. What’s on your mind?
– Everything I’ve experienced is crazy. My vision was of something very uncertain. It’s nice to see what it has become. I have several people who followed me working with me. Nothing was in vain.
– How has producing content affected your self-esteem?
– The Internet was key to accepting my freckles. I covered it up, I was ashamed. On the Internet I had to stop and start doing my makeup from scratch. I realized that it was wonderful to play without having to hide, thanks to my followers, who made me more at ease.
– What inspired you to start producing videos?
– I have been passionate about makeup since I was 7 years old. What encouraged me in the beginning was attracting audiences to watch my videos and hiring me to do my makeup. It was encouraged by my husband that I started recording. He encouraged me to film and then edit.
– By the way, you have been married for ten years and also work together. Works?
– It’s not easy because work sometimes makes you argue. Different points of view emerge and this can generate conflicts. We tried to come together, talk, and even though we were stressed, we tried to separate that moment from the personal. It’s a double accusation. We have to impose limits.
– And how do you manage to reconcile this routine of work, marriage and motherhood?
– We can’t handle it! There’s always something we can’t carry. You delegate tasks to others. I’m not superwoman. I’m not a heroine. I have to interrupt my life to have time for my children. I put my cell phone aside and dedicate myself. Works!
– Tell me more about reality?
– It’s something really new for me. I want to show another side of Mari. On social media I only show what I want, it’s all very strategic. I know exactly how I will behave. I want to take it away. How can I balance a giant family, with my grandchildren, my children? What is it like having a granddaughter who also wants to be an influencer? People seem and think it’s a perfect life, but there are many challenges. I don’t want to force anything. I don’t want scripts. I am a very stressed, workaholic and rigid person. They’ll think I’m a bit crazy!
– How do you manage all this excess exposure?
– I understood that my speeches and actions generated repercussions. People expect a serious woman, who doesn’t joke, who doesn’t make mistakes. I try not to charge that much. If you read all the comments, you no longer have mental health. People talk about an image of you, not about you, because they don’t know you. With reality, I want to show the imperfections. It’s important to listen less to people who only want to criticize.
– What do you want for the future?
– The brand begins to consolidate. I want him to represent Brazil more and more. I feel the duty to bring diversity, to focus on real women. I managed to accept myself by seeing myself in other women, so it’s my duty. The idea is to not judge yourself so much. I want to bring the brand to other countries and that’s the hardest part. I want to show how diverse and powerful Brazil is!
