The singer is being treated for rectal cancer and underwent surgery that is expected to last more than 18 hours in Sao Paulo

Surgery to remove the singer’s tumors Preta Gil which began last Thursday morning, the 19th, and ended successfully. The information was spread by Malu Barbosa, a friend of the singer, in a post on Instagram. “Preta’s surgery is over, she is fine and sleeping”, says the post shared around 6am this Friday the 20th. “She is a great warrior and she won this too”, says the friend.




The operation, carried out at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo, was supposed to last 18 hours. Initially the operation was supposed to be carried out on Sunday 15th, but it was postponed.

Preta Gil was diagnosed with bowel cancer in early 2023. Among the symptoms that made her suspect a health problem were intense constipation and flat stools, with mucus and blood.

At that time, she underwent radiation therapy and surgical treatment. The artist also had to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy, an operation that involves the removal of the uterus.

After primary treatment, he entered a phase without manifestation of the disease, commonly called “remission”, according to doctors heard by Estadão. In other words, the cancer was no longer detectable by physical examinations, imaging, tomography and/or blood tests.

In August 2024, however, the artist reported that the cancer had returned, having been detected in two lymph nodes, the peritoneum – the membrane in the abdominal cavity that surrounds organs such as the stomach and intestines – and the ureter.
