Caetano Veloso records the video for Preta Gil: ‘I love you and I want you’

Caetano Veloso used his social networks this Friday, 27th, to share a video he sent Preta Gilbefore surgery she underwent surgery to remove the tumors.

On the record, he wished his granddaughter good luck and said the singer was his “favorite granddaughter.”

“Pretinha, I’m here thinking about you every day, every time. I want to tell you that Paulinha and I are here believing in that thing you told me at Dedé’s house that day about your decision to follow you. I want you to follow me because you knew that you are my favorite niece, the most beautiful there is, I adore you and I desire you so much.”

The two became “relatives” for a short time, when the singer was married to Dedé Gadelha from 1967 to 1986. The singer is the daughter of Gilberto Gil and Sandra Gadelha, Dedé’s sister.

Understand the case

Preta Gil discovered bowel cancer in early 2023. At the time, she underwent surgical treatment and radiotherapy sessions. She also underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy, a procedure that involves the removal of the uterus.

After this first treatment, the cancer went into remission and was not detected by physical exams, imaging, blood or tomography.

In August, Preta reported that the cancer had returned, and doctors had detected it in two lymph nodes, in the peritoneum – the membrane in the abdominal cavity that surrounds organs such as the stomach and intestines – and in the ureter.

On the 19th she underwent surgery to remove the tumors, in a procedure that lasted 20 hours. According to the latest statement released by the medical team of the Sírio-Libanês hospital, Preta was already stable and awake.
