Silvio Santo’s family contests part of the inheritance in court; understand the case

Months after the death of Silvio Santos, the presenter’s legacy becomes a ‘fight’ between the family and the State of São Paulo

The presenter Silvio Santo he died in August 2024, due to bronchopneumonia, and left a huge legacy to his family. However, since December, the communicator’s family has been seeking justice against the State of São Paulo, which imposes very high taxes.

According to the editorialist Fabia Oliveirafrom Metrópoles, Silvio left a fortune of R$429 million and, now, the State charges around R$18 million in the tax on the cause of transmission of death and donation of assets or rights (ITCMD). The problem is that the family does not agree with the accusation, as the money left behind is deposited in accounts in the Bahamas and the United States.

Reason for the charge

In fact, according to the prosecutor Paulo Gonçalves da Costa Junior, with whom he spoke Pop TVthe reason for the accusation is precisely the fact that the money is found in accounts in places considered tax havens. “Senor Abravanel was a very well-known person whose assets and known economic activities were located in Brazil, causing surprise and strangeness that the majority of his inheritance is attributed to some corporate interest in an ‘entity’ based in Paradise tax of the Bahamas, the existence of which was hitherto unknown to the public”.

For this reason the trial was opened on December 13th and a hearing should be scheduled soon in which an agreement must be reached between the parties involved.
