
Producer Janet Yang has been elected as the new president of the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Of Chinese descent, she is the first Asian person to be elected to office, as well as the fourth woman to preside over the institute, after Fay Kanin (1979-1983), Cheryl Boone Isaacs (2013-2017) and Bette Davis (who resigned after just two months, in 1941).
In a statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer described Yang as “an extremely dedicated strategic leader who has an incredible record of serving at the Academy.”

However, he has never been nominated for an Oscar.
