The poem that was allegedly plagiarized is called “Hobo Ben”. And his verses are actually very similar to “Sad Motherf *** in ‘Parade”
Johnny Depp will face yet another lawsuit in his increasingly legal career. He has been accused of plagiarism in his recent musical foray with rocker Jeff Beck.
Depp and Beck released the album “18” last month, which features several covers and two original songs. One of them, “Sad Motherf *** in ‘Parade”, was considered an attack on Amber Heard. But the inspiration may have been very different.
Musicologist Bruce Jackson denounced to Rolling Stone magazine that the lyrics are the plagiarism of a dark “toast,” sung by an incarcerated black man and documented by him in 1974. The lyrics of the original secular poetry were written by a man of named Slim Wilson who was serving a sentence for armed robbery at the Missouri State Penitentiary when Jackson recorded it in his book “Get Your Ass in the Water and Swim Like Me”, devoted to the story of “toasts” – damn black poetry. The book came out with the accompaniment of a record with toast recordings.

The poem that was allegedly plagiarized is called “Hobo Ben”. And his verses are actually very similar to “Sad Motherf *** in ‘Parade”.
On the toast, “Hobo Ben”, the man in the title of the song is at a party and says, “‘Lord of such refined culture and beauty, is there one among you who would give me wine? / I’m ragged, me I know, but I don’t stink / And God bless the lady who will offer me a drink. ‘/ Hattie with sturdy hips turned to Nadine with a laugh / And said,’ What that stinking motherfucker really needs, boy , it’s a bathroom. ‘”
“Sad Motherf *** in ‘Parade” includes similar lines, such as “I’m ragged, I know, but I don’t stink”, “God bless the lady who’ll offer me a drink” and “What this motherfucker really needs, boy , it’s a bathroom “.
“The only two lines I could find in all the lyrics that [Depp e Beck] ‘Son of a bitch great’ and ‘Bring it down to my level’ contributed, “Jackson told Rolling Stone.” Everything else is from Slim’s performance in my book. I’ve never found anything like it. I’ve been publishing material for 50 years and this is the first time anyone has just ripped something up and put their name on it. “
So far, neither Depp nor Beck have commented on the allegations.
