After the action of MPF, MUBI claims to have collaborated with the Ministry of Justice since the beginning of the year

MUBI issued a statement after the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) filed a public civil action in court for the platform to reveal the indicative evaluation of its programming. This is an obligation under Brazilian law for parents and guardians to control the content watched by children.

According to the document, in February of this year the Ministry of Justice tried to arbitrate the MUBI to adjust the inadequacies, but received no response. It was then that he represented the MPF asking for measures to ensure that the company complied with Brazilian legislation.

But in its official note, MUBI claims to have been collaborating with the Classification System Coordination since the beginning of the year. In addition, in March one of the action requests submitted on Friday (8/12), full access to the application for the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), would be accepted.

It is clear from the note that the platform is collaborating with the government, contrary to what the MPF states in its document sent to the 8th Federal Court of Justice.

It is also worth pointing out that MUBI has a classification system that describes, title by title, if the content can be seen by the general public, if it is for an adult audience or if it deserves parental attention to determine if it should be watched by teenagers. The difference lies only in the failure to adopt the specific criterion established by the Ministry of Justice, which has the same function, but establishes different age groups.

See below the full text of the official MUBI statement.

“MUBI Brasil has collaborated in recent months with the Coordination of the Classification System, after becoming aware of a notification of February 2022. This is the same number published on the website of the Federal Public Ministry on August 12, 2022.

MUBI received guidance from the classification system coordination in March 2022 and has since granted unlimited access to the platform to the Ministry of Justice and is working closely with the body to keep up to date on all other legal requirements and related deadlines.

MUBI is in dialogue with all parties involved to reconfirm any requirements or information that the company was not aware of until now, in order to resolve all pending issues within the established deadline “.
