The model’s post had a great repercussion in Colombian society and even the president of the country, Gustavo Petro, listed among the people to be shot, spoke out openly, classifying Laura as a person with violent and fascist attitudes.
Faced with these criticisms, Miss announced her withdrawal from the competition in an official statement shared last Tuesday, the 27th. “In recent days my name has become a topic of national debate. They pointed out my political positions as if thinking, giving opinions, and standing up for principles were incompatible with being a lady. Faced with this reality, I refuse to remain silent. I refuse to be part of a system that requires obedience instead of self-reflection. I refuse to let a crown become a joke,” he said.
In a video, Laura also declared that she could not continue the competition because, if she had won, she would have had to spend an entire year without expressing opinions on politics and other topics considered controversial. She also said she will have to avoid questions from the media related to politics, a topic she has always been interested in.
