The singer talks about inspirations, relationships with Brazilians and promises to have “something up her sleeve” for future releases
Twelve years after being crowned “Critics’ Choice” at the Brit Awards in 2010, Britain’s Ellie Goulding remains one of the greatest representations of dance music today.
Known for hits like Love me like you do And lightsEllie reinvents herself and promises to have “something different up her sleeve” for upcoming releases and, who knows, for a new album.
“The new music is definitely a new era. I don’t know how the fans will react, but they have always known that nothing will always be the same”, he points out in a video interview with Estadio.
Ellie is back in the spotlight after two years with the release of easy loverpartnership between the artist and the rapper Great Seanlast month.
Despite being a recent version, easy lover does not yet portray the “new Ellie”, as it is an old song that has become a hit among the singer’s friends.
“It was a very popular song with my friends – I always use them as a ‘tester’. I think it’s a great pop song and it’s a theme I still sing about,” says the artist.
‘I am inspired by human nature’
Love and breakups are recurring themes in Ellie’s songs and something the singer is always inspired by.
She, who calls herself “someone inspired by human nature”, believes that the recurrence of these themes in the productions of different artists is what makes music “an extraordinary thing”.
“Every artist, every musician and every singer grew up in different circumstances,” he explains. For Ellie, having had contact with different musical genres has made her the artist she is today.
“At one point, I was playing guitar in rock bands. At another I saw myself listening to classical music, and then I was in the R&B phase,” he says.
“The variety of songs that go viral on TikTok is huge”

As a result of the Generation Z days, Ellie has seen many of her “old” songs go viral on TikTok. An “accelerated” version of lightslaunched in 2010, it has been used over 300,000 times on the web.
With the song, the singer came to play in a video that amasses nearly 60 million views. Through a trend of dancing amidst mobile phone flashes, the Brit has even suggested releasing a new version of the hit.
When asked about the influence of the video platform in composing new music, Ellie assured that she does not let the “viral pattern” affect her too much, but that she and the producers are always attentive to what happens on the net.
“You never really know what TikTok’s music is. The variety of songs that go viral is so huge: from Fletwood Mac to Kate Bush, to an unknown artist from some remote place,” he says.
But it is with optimism that the singer sees this phenomenon. According to her, TikTok allows the world to recognize hitherto unknown musicians, or to listen to old songs that have not yet reached the new generations.
For Ellie, the secret to going viral is doing what you love. “If you believe it, love it and do your best at what you do, then things will fall into place,” she says.
“You can’t find the energy of the Brazilian fans anywhere”
The singer last set foot on Brazilian soil during Rock in Rio in 2019 and, during the interview, revealed that the energy of Brazilian fans has even changed her performance.
“The respect and warmth I received from people when I performed at Rock in Rio is unforgettable. It transformed my performance,” says the Brit.
He comments that the reciprocity provided by Brazilians is not something found “everywhere”. “Sometimes you play at festivals and you don’t feel like you’re getting the love you want to get. In Brazil, it’s very different and highly appreciated,” she said.
