Recent cases exemplify the common behavior among media personalities who cannot tolerate being contradicted
Within days of each other, three powerful men got angry over a question posed by a reporter and abandoned an interview.
Economy Minister Paulo Guedes participated in the recording of Luís Ernesto Lacombe’s program in the RedeTV studio! in San Paolo.
After hearing a question about the nurse’s salary, Jair Bolsonaro’s right-hand man changed his mood, took the microphone off, got up and left. He also asked that the already recorded part not be shown.
Strange behavior of the Guedes, since Lacombe is openly in solidarity with the president and supporter of his government.
In London for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, Bolsonaro stopped to talk to reporters outside the Brazilian ambassador’s home.
When a reporter questioned him about the negative repercussions of the trip for its alleged electoral use, the president got angry, turned his back and walked away.
After Seleção’s 3-0 win over Ghana in Le Havre, France, Neymar attended the press.
But when a reporter wanted to know about the Brazilian’s relationship with PSG colleague Mbappé, the ace frowned, said he would not respond and left the post.
According to the press, the two would have had disagreements due to the dispute over the leading role in the French team.
These three episodes highlight a common practice among celebrities (sportsmen, actors, singers, models, politicians, etc.).
When asked about a controversial or uncomfortable topic, they change their attitude and interrupt the interview.
Despite their experience dealing with cameras, they seem unable to emotionally control themselves and formulate a protocol response.
They ignore that an angry reaction or an omission has more repercussions than the subject they want to avoid and generates damage to the public image.

A relationship psychologist at the University of Miami, Alexander Bez explains why these influential personalities react this way.
Why this strange behavior when challenged?
The technical term for this is “frustration intolerance”. The behavior of people intolerant to frustration is usually predictable and observable. Most of the time they are moody, impatient, negative and victimized, they feel offended and, therefore, collect frustrations over time. It is important to analyze the content of the questions asked, as well as the people involved. The question has very great psychological significance for that person. We need to understand the reason for the reaction. Where does this irritability come from? Usually, when the person doesn’t owe anything, or when she doesn’t have any kind of material to hide, she has no problem answering. Frustration intolerance has several nuances.
Does it have to do with feelings of power and excessive vanity?
These are aspects that cannot be overlooked. But it’s not just this. If we dig deeper, we might find a few more questions. Frustration intolerance usually comes from people who think they are untouchable and possess the truth. We can call it egolatry, being a little denser. Another motivation to act in this way, avoiding or even having radical behaviors, can be a situation of abandonment, seen by psychology as a feeling of escape. The question touched on a key point, a crucial point.
Does this attitude refer to some psychological pathology?
It can be characterized as a psychological pathology if the behavior is recurrent. If it’s an isolated reaction, it might just be to that specific question or answer that caused irritability. If it happens repeatedly, it can be considered a neurotic pathology.
How can we be more tolerant when we are under pressure?
Primarily through mental health awareness, reasoning and integrity. It is important for the person to have their own perception and see when something needs to be changed. The action of abandonment, which can also be considered a passive-aggressive attitude, must be analyzed by the author of the action, to work on tolerance in itself.
