Lizzo visits the United States Library of Congress and plays a rare flute of the former president


The venue has the largest collection of flutes in the world and allowed the singer to play a crystal instrument in her show.

Lizzo accomplished another historic feat on Monday, the 26th. She was invited to visit the library of United States Congress and could play crystal flute of about 200 years which belonged to the former president James Madison.

Besides being a singer, Lizzo is a professional flutist and always plays the instrument in her concerts. Knowing this, the Librarian of Congress, Carla Haydenused Twitter to invite the artist to visit the place when his tour passed through Washington DC, the North American capital.

According to the publication, the library has the largest collection of flutes in the world, with over 1,800 copies. The instrument played by Lizzo is one of the rarest versions and was sent by the French luthier Claude Laurent to James Madison in 1813.

The meeting was scheduled and, on Wednesday 28th, the official library report released a video showing the backstage of the visit. The singer received permission to play several flutes from the collection under the supervision of the local team and the Capitol Police.

Additionally, the Library of Congress allowed Lizzo to play James Madison’s rare flute during her concert on Tuesday 27. According to the singer, she is the first and only person to play the instrument, which is crystal and has remained in a vault for decades before then.

The artist shared the videos of the moment on social media and wrote: “As a flutist, this is iconic and I will never forget it.”
