Actress María Antonieta de las Nieves, known for playing Chiquinha in the “Chaves” series, sparked controversy and became a topic on social media after an interview in which she made comments considered racist and homophobic.
Speaking to the Mexican press, he made heavy statements about artists imitating his famous character, criticizing black and gay artists.
In an excerpt, the artist criticized Peruvian comedian Alex Brandon. “What a bad thing, imagine that a Chiquinha in Peru, with beer in hand and doing a dance hard to believe, I would say almost erotic. He is a boy who is not a boy, but a girl who thinks Chiquinha is fatal”, he said.
In another passage, he also mentioned the performance of a black woman. “They held a contest in which six white Chiquinhas appeared, one of which is black. I have nothing against blacks, what I have against is that they imitate me like Chiquinha with the cover of my photos and my logo.”
The statements resonated very negatively among “Chaves” fans.
