The first model underwent total hip arthroplasty surgery on November 2 to recover the joint in the region. Suffers from osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease that affects the cartilage, the tissues that protect the joints and without which a person feels extreme pain when moving.
In the actor’s procedure, a porcelain prosthesis was placed, fixed to the two bones (pelvis and femur), replacing the original joint on the right side of the hip.
According to Rodrigo Guimaraes, an orthopedist who is part of the clinical staff of the Hospital Albert Einstein and professor at the Faculdade Israelita de Ciências da Saúde Albert Einstein, total arthroplasty is indicated to reconstruct any type of joint in the body – however, the hip and the knee are the most frequent.
“When a patient has a disease that causes wear and tear on the joint, such as osteoarthritis or osteonecrosis, this equipment wears out and stops working,” says Guimarães.
